NAERLS Trains Extension Officers on Responsible Deployment of TELA Maize Technology

The National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS) has commenced a two-day Training of Trainers Workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of agricultural extension officers to support the effective implementation of TELA maize technology across Nigeria.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Kaduna, the Executive Director of NAERLS, Professor Yusuf Sani, emphasized the importance of building stewardship capacity among extension personnel to ensure the responsible deployment, monitoring, and evaluation of the innovative maize technology.
The workshop, which runs from June 7 to 10, 2026, is designed to equip participants with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to support stewardship implementation, engage farmers, collect critical field data, and effectively communicate stewardship requirements associated with TELA maize cultivation.
According to NAERLS, the training is expected to enhance the ability of extension officers to promote best practices among farmers while ensuring compliance with established guidelines for the technology's adoption.
Among the senior officials attending the workshop are the Deputy Director of NAERLS, Professor M. M. Jaliya; Assistant Director of Extension, Training and Outreach, Professor A. A. Jamilu; Assistant Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Professor Tunji Iyiola; as well as NAERLS Zonal Officers from the North-West, North-East, North-Central, South-East, and South-West regions.
The initiative underscores NAERLS' commitment to strengthening agricultural extension services and supporting sustainable agricultural innovations aimed at improving food security and boosting maize production nationwide.
