Former Healthcare Worker Cautioned for Attempting to Sell Princess Kate's Medical Records
A former healthcare worker has been formally cautioned by the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) after attempting to illegally obtain and sell the confidential medical records of Catherine, Princess of Wales.
The incident dates back to March 2024, when reports emerged that staff at the London Clinic, where Princess Kate was recovering from abdominal surgery, had tried to access her private medical information without authorization.
Following an investigation, the ICO found that the former employee had deliberately sought to profit from the Princess's sensitive health records, describing the act as a serious breach of patient confidentiality. The individual received a formal caution under the UK's Data Protection Act.
The London Clinic welcomed the outcome of the investigation, stating that it found no evidence of wider institutional failings and reaffirming its commitment to protecting patients' privacy.
The case has reignited concerns over medical data security and the importance of safeguarding confidential patient information, regardless of a person's public profile.
