Bandit Leader Explains Delay in Releasing Abducted General’s Wife

A suspected bandit leader has claimed that the heavy deployment of security personnel in parts of Katsina State prevented him from releasing the wife of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar as earlier promised.

According to reports, the bandit leader stated that releasing her under the current security situation would have allowed security agencies to claim responsibility for her rescue. He alleged that this was the main reason for delaying her release.

The development comes amid ongoing efforts to secure the freedom of Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, and his wife, who were abducted by armed criminals in Katsina State.

In a video reportedly released by the kidnappers, the victims appealed to government authorities, security agencies, and other stakeholders to intensify efforts toward securing their release.

The abductors are also said to have outlined certain conditions for the couple’s freedom, including the release of individuals allegedly in security custody and the return of seized livestock.

Meanwhile, the Katsina State Government has expressed optimism that sustained security operations and increasing pressure on the kidnappers will lead to the safe release of the retired general and his wife.

However, the claims attributed to the bandit leader have not been independently verified by security authorities, and no official confirmation has been issued regarding the authenticity of the statements.
