Zamfara Approves Establishment of WAEC CBT Centres, Launches Emergency Education Reforms

The Zamfara State Executive Council has approved the allocation of landd for the construction of a modern Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Centers in partnership with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to prepare students for digital examinations and ensure they are not disadvantaged in national assessments.

The approval is part of sweeping education reforms introduced by Governor Dauda Lawal to fully implement the State of Emergency on Education declared in 2023.

Key measures approved include the establishment of a high-level education steering committee, a 120-day rapid intervention plan to rehabilitate schools and reduce out-of-school children, urgent actions to improve school security, workforce reforms to enhance efficiency, and plans to develop a unified education sector law.

Officials described the decisions as a major step toward rebuilding and repositioning the education system in Zamfara State.
