Protesters Block Kwatarkwashi–Gusau Road Over Alleged Withdrawal of Security Personnel

Residents and protesters from Lilo village and surrounding communities in Zamfara state on Tuesday staged a demonstration, blocking the busy Kwatarkwashi–Gusau highway in protest over the alleged withdrawal of security personnel from their area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the protesters, comprising youths, women, and community members, barricaded the road early in the day, causing significant disruption to vehicular movement and commercial activities along the route. The demonstrators expressed deep concern over growing insecurity in their communities, insisting that the removal of security operatives has left residents vulnerable to attacks by armed groups.

According to community sources, the protest was triggered by fears of renewed banditry and criminal activities following the reported redeployment of security forces previously stationed in the villages. Protest leaders called on government authorities and security agencies to urgently restore security presence to prevent further deterioration of the situation.

Travelers and motorists were stranded for several hours as the road blockade created long queues on both sides of the highway. Security officials were reportedly monitoring the situation, while efforts were being made to engage community leaders to restore calm and reopen the road.
