Opposition Parties Agree to Back Single Candidate for 2027 Presidential Election


Major opposition parties in Nigeria have reportedly reached a strategic agreement to support a single consensus candidate ahead of the forthcoming 2027 Nigerian general election, in a move aimed at strengthening their chances of unseating the ruling party.

The decision, according to emerging political sources, follows a series of high-level consultations among opposition leaders who are seeking to avoid vote fragmentation and present a united front to Nigerian voters.

Political analysts say the agreement marks a significant shift in opposition strategy, as previous elections were characterized by multiple candidates from different parties competing separately, a factor widely believed to have weakened their collective performance.

The coalition is expected to finalize the selection process for the consensus candidate through internal negotiations, consultations with stakeholders, and possible primary arrangements designed to ensure fairness and unity among participating parties.
