Gunmen Kill Two, Abduct Vigilante Members and Residents in Sokoto Night Attack

Armed gunmen have killed at least two people and abducted several residents, including local vigilante members, during a late-night raid on a community in Sokoto State.

The attackers reportedly stormed the village at about 11:00 p.m., firing sporadically and causing panic among residents. Eyewitnesses said the assailants operated for nearly an hour before fleeing into the bush with their captives.

Among those kidnapped were women, a child believed to be around 10 years old, and members of a local security outfit who attempted to resist the attack.

The latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing rural communities in northwestern Nigeria, where banditry and mass abductions continue to threaten lives and livelihoods. Security authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack as of the time of filing this report.
