Gunmen Abduct Residents in Zamfara Villages as Lawmaker Raises Alarm


Residents of two communities in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State have been thrown into panic after armed bandits reportedly invaded their villages and abducted several people during a late-night attack.

The Member of the House of Representatives representing Gumi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency, Hon. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, confirmed the incident in an interview with the BBC, stating that the attackers stormed Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji villages on Thursday night.

According to the lawmaker, the assailants arrived under the cover of darkness and forcefully took away an unspecified number of residents from their homes, leaving families in distress and uncertainty over the fate of their loved ones.

Local sources said the attack created widespread fear among villagers, many of whom reportedly fled their homes to seek safety in neighboring communities. As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of abductees had not been officially disclosed, and there were no confirmed reports of fatalities.

Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the attack, but efforts are expected to be intensified to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe release of the victims.
