Dangote Group Signs Major Fuel Distribution Deal to Boost Petrol Supply in Nigeria
The Dangote Group has taken another significant step in its efforts to ensure steady fuel supply in Nigeria and reduce the country’s reliance on imported petroleum products. The company recently announced a major agreement with leading fuel marketers to distribute petrol across the country.
The move is part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s energy independence and ensure that citizens do not experience fuel shortages.
How the Agreement Will Work
Reports indicate that the new deal will involve the distribution of between 60 million and 65 million litres of petrol daily within Nigeria’s domestic market. This volume is expected to cover almost the entire national demand for petrol.
President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, explained that the arrangement was designed to guarantee consistent petrol availability across all parts of the country.
According to him, Nigeria currently consumes about 50 to 60 million litres of petrol per day. The new agreement will therefore meet local demand, while any surplus production could be exported to other countries.
Link to the Dangote Refinery
The agreement is closely tied to the operations of the Dangote Refinery, located in Lekki, Lagos State.
The refinery has a refining capacity of 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, making it one of the largest oil refineries in the world.
It is widely expected that the refinery will play a major role in ending Nigeria’s long-standing dependence on imported petrol, a challenge the country has faced for decades.
Benefits for Nigerians
Energy experts believe the agreement could bring major economic benefits to Nigeria. Among the expected advantages are:
Ensuring consistent petrol supply across the country
Reducing fuel price volatility in the market
Generating additional revenue through fuel exports
Strengthening Nigeria’s oil and gas industry and overall economy
Analysts say that if effectively implemented, the initiative could mark a turning point for Nigeria’s energy sector and significantly improve fuel availability nationwide.
