Why Suswam Resigned from PDP
Suswam’s decision was conveyed in a resignation letter addressed to the PDP leadership in his ward—Mbagber Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area, Benue State. The letter has since been acknowledged by party executives and widely circulated by his media team.
In the letter, the former governor attributed his exit to persistent internal divisions and unresolved leadership crises that, according to him, have weakened the party’s cohesion and effectiveness. He expressed regret that the party’s internal issues had continued to “linger without meaningful resolution,” adding that the situation made it difficult for him to remain aligned with its current direction.
Suswam also expressed gratitude to the PDP for the roles it played throughout his political journey, which included serving three terms in the House of Representatives, eight years as governor, and a term in the Senate between 2019 and 2023.
His resignation marks another high-profile departure from the PDP, which has recently witnessed a series of defections amid internal disagreements and shifting political alliances nationwide.
While Suswam did not immediately announce his next political move in the resignation letter, emerging reports suggest he may be aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC), though an official confirmation is still awaited.
Political observers say his exit may further alter the political landscape in Benue State ahead of upcoming elections, as Suswam remains a significant figure with substantial grassroots influence.
More developments are expected as the situation unfolds.
