Terrorists Kill Fasting Muslims in Kebbi in Tragic Pre-Dawn Attack

A quiet rural community in Kebbi State was thrown into mourning on Wednesday after terrorists launched a deadly pre-dawn assault that claimed the lives of several Muslims observing Ramadan fasting. The attack, which occurred around 3:00 a.m., targeted residents who were awake for Sahur, the early morning meal eaten before the daily fast begins.

How the Attack Unfolded

According to eyewitness accounts, the armed terrorists invaded the village on motorcycles and began shooting sporadically. The timing of the attack caught many residents off guard, as families were gathered inside their homes preparing for Sahur.

Victims were reportedly shot at close range, while others were killed as they attempted to escape into nearby bushes. The attackers also set parts of the community ablaze, leaving behind destruction and grief.

Casualties Still Being Compiled

Local sources confirmed multiple deaths, though the exact number of casualties remains uncertain as authorities continue to gather information. Several injured residents were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Houses, shops, and personal belongings were also destroyed during the raid.

Community volunteers and vigilante groups spent the morning searching for missing people and assisting survivors.

Authorities Yet to Release Official Statement

As of press time, security agencies have not issued a formal statement on the incident. However, local vigilantes revealed that a coordinated manhunt has been launched to pursue the attackers and prevent further assaults.

Shock and Outrage Across the Community

The assault has sparked widespread condemnation from residents and religious leaders who described it as inhumane, barbaric, and a direct attack on people observing a sacred religious duty. Many families have reportedly fled the community out of fear, leaving homes and belongings behind.

A community elder who spoke to journalists expressed deep sorrow:

“They attacked us at our most vulnerable moment. People were preparing for Sahur — nobody expected such cruelty.”
