Mob Burns Suspected Phone Snatcher to Death in Kano

In the Dorayi area of Kano metropolis, a group of enraged youth set ablaze a man accused of attempting to snatch a young woman’s handbag, an incident that has plunged the community into shock and heightened concerns over the growing trend of mob justice.
Some residents who spoke to ZANCEN YAU247 via telephone revealed that the incident occurred after the suspect allegedly forcefully grabbed the young woman’s bag and stabbed her in the neck area while trying to escape.
Instead of handing him over to security operatives, the youth decided to take the law into their own hands. They reportedly beat the suspect severely before setting him on fire, leading to his death at the scene.
Witnesses said efforts by community elders to intervene and disperse the mob proved futile due to the large crowd and the intensity of anger among the youth.
The Kano State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, but sources within ZANCEN YAU247 confirmed that investigations have commenced.
The incident has once again raised critical questions about the increasing cases of jungle justice in some communities, especially amid rising incidents of phone snatching and other petty crimes across Kano.
There are renewed calls for authorities to strengthen security measures, safeguard the lives of citizens, and ensure that individuals involved in extrajudicial killings are brought to justice.
