How DSS Handed Over Walida to Governor Namadi After 3 Years

Jigawa State Governor Umar A. Namadi has secured the release of Walida Abdulhadi Ibrahim, the young girl who went missing in 2023 and was allegedly held by an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS). She was handed over to the governor on Wednesday night at the DSS headquarters in Abuja.

Walida, who disappeared from Hadejia in 2023, was reportedly taken and unlawfully kept by a DSS officer identified as Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi. Her family accused the officer of detaining her without consent, subjecting her to abuse, and that she even gave birth while in captivity — allegations that sparked public outrage and legal battles.

Despite a court order demanding her release, DSS held her for months, claiming ongoing investigations. This prompted strong intervention from the Jigawa State Government, civil society groups, and legal advocates.

During the handover, Governor Namadi was accompanied by senior Jigawa officials, including the Speaker of the State Assembly and the Attorney-General. He assured that the government will provide Walida with medical care, psychological support, and safe reintegration. He also vowed to pursue justice against anyone found guilty.

The DSS confirmed that the accused officer is currently in detention and may face prosecution based on investigative findings.

Walida is now in the custody of the Jigawa government as plans for her welfare and rehabilitation begin.
