British Woman Shot Dead by Father in After Heated Argument Over Donald Trump — Inquest Reveals Disturbing New Details

A British woman who was shot dead while visiting her father in Texas had engaged in a heated argument with him about former U.S. President Donald Trump just hours before the fatal incident, a UK inquest has heard.

The victim, Lucy Harrison, 23, from Warrington in Cheshire, was staying at her father’s home in Prosper, Texas when she was fatally shot in the chest on 10 January 2025, the same day she was due to fly back to the UK. Harrison, a fashion buyer and Manchester Metropolitan University graduate, had travelled to the United States to spend time with her father, Kris Harrison.

During proceedings at Cheshire Coroner’s Court, harrowing testimony from her boyfriend, Sam Littler, painted a troubling picture of Lucy’s final hours. He revealed that she had become visibly distressed after a “big argument” with her father earlier that day about Donald Trump, who at the time was preparing to begin a second presidential term. The discussion reportedly escalated, leaving Lucy upset and withdrawn.

According to Littler, Lucy expressed discomfort with her father’s views and his ownership of firearms, a topic that had frequently caused tension between them. “She often became upset whenever he talked about having a gun,” he told the inquest.

The situation took a tragic turn shortly before their planned departure for the airport. Littler stated that Lucy’s father led her into his bedroom, and barely 15 seconds later, a gunshot rang out. Rushing to the scene, he found Lucy collapsed near the bathroom doorway, gravely wounded, while her father was described as “screaming nonsense” and appearing disoriented.

Emergency services were called, but Lucy was pronounced dead from the gunshot wound. Her father was initially investigated for negligent manslaughter.

However, in June 2025, a Texas grand jury declined to bring criminal charges, sparking frustration and anguish among Lucy’s family in the UK, who have continued to seek answers and accountability.

Lucy’s mother, Jane Coates, described her as “a passionate, caring young woman who lit up every room she entered.” She said the family has struggled to accept both the loss and the absence of legal consequences in the U.S. justice system.

The inquest in Cheshire aims to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting, particularly the events leading up to the tragedy and the question of whether the firearm was discharged accidentally.

Coroner proceedings continue, with further evidence expected to determine a final conclusion regarding Lucy Harrison’s death.
