Borno Night Operation Ends in Ruin for Boko Haram as Commander, Fighters Fall
The Nigerian Army has announced the killing of a Boko Haram commander alongside ten of his fighters during a coordinated night operation in Borno State, marking another step in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts across the northeast.
In a statement released on Saturday, military authorities confirmed that the operation was carried out after credible intelligence revealed the location of a key Boko Haram cell responsible for recent attacks in the region. Troops reportedly advanced on the hideout under the cover of darkness, engaging the insurgents in a brief but intense firefight.
According to the Army, the targeted commander had been coordinating movements of fighters along critical routes within the Lake Chad axis, facilitating ambushes and attacks on rural communities. His death, the statement added, is expected to further disrupt the operational capabilities of the insurgent group.
The military also disclosed that several weapons, ammunition, and communication devices were recovered during the raid, while surveillance activities in the surrounding areas have been heightened to prevent regrouping.
Borno State has remained the epicenter of Boko Haram’s insurgency for more than a decade, with armed groups launching sporadic attacks despite sustained military pressure.
The latest operation forms part of renewed efforts by the Nigerian armed forces to degrade remaining terrorist elements and restore stability across affected communities.
Authorities urged residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies, emphasizing that collaboration remains crucial to achieving lasting peace in the region.
