Rivers Impeachment Drama Deepens as Claims of Withdrawal, Tinubu Apology Spark Confusion


Fresh political tension has erupted in Rivers State following viral claims that lawmakers have withdrawn impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and apologised to President Bola Tinubu.

The reports, widely shared on blogs and social media, triggered mixed reactions across the country. However, there is no official confirmation from the Rivers State House of Assembly to support the claim.

What is confirmed is that lawmakers recently initiated impeachment moves against the governor and his deputy, citing alleged misconduct — a development that has sharply divided political actors.

While some political groups have called for the impeachment to be dropped in respect of Tinubu’s peace efforts, the Assembly has not announced any reversal, apology, or formal resolution.

The United States has formally withdrawn from the World Health Organization (WHO), a move that strips the UN health agency of one of its largest financial contributors and marks a major shift in global health diplomacy.
