🔥Obasanjo Admits Opposing To Tambuwal Rise as Speaker

Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s 60th birthday celebration took an unexpected political turn when former President Olusegun Obasanjo dropped a bombshell revelation that instantly stole the spotlight.

Speaking at the high-profile colloquium held to mark Tambuwal’s diamond jubilee, Obasanjo disclosed that he and then-President Goodluck Jonathan were initially against Tambuwal’s emergence as Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2011.

According to the former president, the opposition from the highest levels of power did not stop lawmakers at the time.
“The legislators defied party pressure and went ahead to elect Tambuwal as Speaker,” Obasanjo revealed, drawing gasps from the audience.

Tambuwal’s emergence as Speaker in 2011 was one of the most dramatic moments in Nigeria’s parliamentary history. Against the wishes of party leadership and the presidency, members of the House asserted their independence — a move that reshaped legislative politics in the country.

Obasanjo admitted that although he initially resisted the outcome, he later accepted and supported Tambuwal once the decision was made, describing it as part of the democratic process.

What was meant to be a celebration of life quickly transformed into a moment of political reflection, as leaders revisited one of Nigeria’s boldest legislative rebellions.
With former presidents, ex-vice presidents, and top political figures in attendance, the revelation underscored Tambuwal’s long-standing image as a politician willing to stand firm even against overwhelming pressure.

Tambuwal’s 60th birthday was not just about age or accolades — it became a reminder of:
The power of legislative independence
The cost of defying entrenched interests
And the moment a young lawmaker challenged the political establishment — and won

As the applause faded, one message rang clear: Tambuwal’s political journey has always been controversial, courageous, and consequential.
