INEC Opens Ad-Hoc Staff Portal, Debunks Viral Recruitment Rumours

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially opened its online portal for the recruitment of ad-hoc staff, putting to rest conflicting reports and viral claims circulating on social media.

INEC confirmed that the recruitment exercise is being conducted only through its approved INECPRES platform, which is designed specifically for the engagement of temporary election workers for upcoming polls.

According to the Commission, the current recruitment is not a nationwide, permanent employment exercise, but is meant to source ad-hoc personnel for specific elections, including preparations linked to forthcoming Area Council and off-cycle elections.

Positions typically filled through the portal include:
Presiding Officers (POs)
Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs)
Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs)
Registration Area Technicians (RATs)

INEC stressed that only the official INECPRES portals are valid, warning Nigerians to disregard any other websites or links claiming to offer INEC ad-hoc jobs.

The approved platforms are:
Web/iOS: pres.inecnigeria.org
Android: presmobile.inecnigeria.org
Any recruitment website outside these platforms is unauthorised and potentially fraudulent, the Commission warned.

The electoral body also raised alarm over the activities of fraudsters who are exploiting the recruitment process to deceive job seekers, often demanding payment or personal information.

INEC reiterated that:
Application is completely free
INEC does not charge fees for ad-hoc recruitment. Applicants should rely only on official INEC channels for updates
What Applicants Should Know

Eligible applicants are advised to:
Apply early before the portal closes.
Use accurate personal and bank details
Monitor official INEC announcements for screening and deployment updates

The announcement has generated widespread interest, particularly among youths and first-time applicants seeking short-term election work. Analysts say the clarification by INEC is timely, as misinformation around recruitment often peaks during election seasons.

INEC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, verify information before applying, and report suspicious recruitment links to security agencies
