Anthony Joshua’s Driver Charged in Deadly Crash

In a story that reads like a dramatic thriller, the driver at the center of the tragic crash that injured British‑Nigerian boxing superstar Anthony Joshua and killed two of his closest associates has officially been charged in a Nigerian court.

The incident, which occurred on December 29, 2025, sent shockwaves across sports and news media when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua, strength coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif “Latz”

Ayodele slammed into a stationary truck on the busy Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway. Ghami and Ayodele tragically died at the scene; Joshua survived with minor injuries and was discharged from the hospital shortly after.

But this week, the focus shifted from tragedy to justice. Police in Ogun State arraigned 46‑year‑old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode on four serious charges, including:
Dangerous driving causing death
Reckless and negligent driving
Driving without due care and attention
Operating a vehicle without a valid national driver’s license

The case was brought before the Sagamu Magistrate Court, and Kayode was granted ₦5 million bail with two sureties — though he remains in custody until the bail conditions are met. His next court date is set for January 20, 2026.

The crash has reignited debate about road safety in Nigeria’s major transport corridors. Preliminary police findings suggest the Lexus was moving at high speed and may have lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle before colliding with the parked truck — a scenario familiar to many motorists who travel Nigeria’s hectic highways

Beyond the legal drama, there’s a very human story at its heart. Joshua, a two‑time heavyweight champion with deep ties to Nigeria, paid tribute to his fallen friends and team members — calling them “brothers” and “great men” — even as he continues his recovery.

This case not only shines a light on legal accountability but also prompts a broader conversation on driver training, vehicle safety, and enforcement of traffic laws on Nigerian roads.

Expect this to be a story that keeps evolving as the trial unfolds.
