The drone, a CH‑4B medium‑altitude long‑endurance platform, was deployed in the North‑West theatre, performing vital surveillance and reconnaissance tasks that support ground forces and intelligence operations.

Mid‑flight, the platform experienced a loss of link — a scenario in which communication between the drone and its ground control station is interrupted. While it did not make it safely back to its base, it crash‑landed in a forested area near Kontagora in Niger State, where recovery teams sprang into action without delay.
