FG Apologises to Nigerians Over Frequent Power Outages, Promises Improvement Within Two Weeks
The Federal Government has apologised to Nigerians over the persistent power outages experienced across the country in recent weeks, acknowledging the hardship the situation has imposed on households and economic activities.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, made the apology during a press briefing held in Abuja on Tuesday, at a time when public concern continues to grow over the unstable electricity supply, further aggravated by the intense heat being recorded nationwide.
Speaking at the briefing, the minister expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to citizens, describing the outages as a temporary challenge.
“I want to sincerely apologise to Nigerians for this temporary problem that is causing hardship, especially during this period of extreme heat,” he said.
Adelabu noted that the situation has negatively affected businesses, schools, and industries, stressing that the government is fully aware of the economic and social implications of unreliable electricity supply.
Despite the ongoing challenges, the minister assured Nigerians that concrete steps are being taken to resolve the problem. He disclosed that improvements in power supply are expected to begin within the next two weeks, following the repair of critical gas pipelines and strengthened collaboration with gas suppliers.
He further revealed that the government has established a special monitoring committee to ensure gas companies meet their obligations to supply adequate gas domestically. According to him, gas shortages remain one of the major factors limiting the generation of sufficient electricity in the country.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to stabilising the power sector and improving electricity delivery to support economic growth and enhance the quality of life for Nigerians.
