Bakura Predicts Defeat for Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal in 2027 Election

GUSAU, ZAMFARA — A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Deputy Coordinator of the 2023 campaign, Yusuf Abdullahi Bakura (MD), has expressed confidence that the people of Zamfara State will vote out Governor in the 2027 governorship election.

Bakura made the declaration while addressing political developments in the state, insisting that the political tide has shifted in favor of the (APC). According to him, a significant number of residents have abandoned the ruling party in the state and are now aligning with the opposition.

He stated that dissatisfaction with the current administration has fueled growing support for the APC across various communities in Zamfara, adding that the party is already positioning itself to reclaim power in the next electoral cycle.

“By the grace of God, the people of Zamfara will defeat Governor Dauda Lawal in the next election. The majority of the people have returned to the APC and no longer support the current government,” Bakura reportedly said.

Political observers note that although the next governorship election is still over a year away, early statements such as Bakura’s reflect intensifying political maneuvering and mobilization among parties in Zamfara State. The state has witnessed shifting political alliances and internal party realignments since the 2023 elections.

Governor , who assumed office after winning the 2023 governorship election, has continued to face criticism from opposition figures over governance and security challenges in the state. However, supporters of the administration maintain that reforms and development initiatives are underway.

Analysts believe the 2027 governorship contest in Zamfara could be highly competitive, given the state’s volatile political landscape and the strategic importance of party loyalty among grassroots voters. The coming months are expected to witness increased political engagement, coalition-building, and campaign groundwork by major parties seeking to secure victory.

For now, Bakura’s remarks underscore the early onset of political contestation in Zamfara, signaling what may become an intense battle for control of the state in the next election cycle.
