Ahmadu Bello University to Honour Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, 155 Others for Outstanding Performance
The famous Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has announced plans to honour the Speaker of the House of Representatives, alongside 155 staff members, service delivery units, research groups, and alumni for their exceptional contributions to the growth and development of the institution.
The university disclosed that Abbas will receive the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the objectives of the university, as well as his impact on national and international development.
According to the university management, the recipients will be celebrated at a special award ceremony scheduled to be announced at a later date. The awards were recommended by the University Reward and Recognition System Committee in its 2025 report submitted to management on February 25 as chaired by Professor Sani A. Abdullahi of the Department of Finance.
The institution explained that this marks the third time it is conducting the recognition exercise since the establishment of the committee on December 14, 2023, aimed at institutionalising a formal reward and special recognition system for staff members, service units, corporate bodies, alumni, and friends of the university.
Out of the 156 individuals and groups selected for recognition, 140 are staff members, while others include one university committee, one research group, one corporate body, three service delivery units, one faculty deanery, and nine alumni.
The committee also recommended eight recipients of the 2025 Presidential NYSC Honours Award, all graduates of Ahmadu Bello University, for the ABU Distinguished Ambassadors Award in recognition of their outstanding community development projects during their national service year.
Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Adamu Ahmed, commended the committee for what he described as a thorough and transparent process. He congratulated the awardees for their well-deserved honours, expressing confidence that the recognition initiative would strengthen trust in the institution and motivate employees to sustain excellence in service delivery.
