Wage Award: NLC and TUC Reject Tinubu’s Payment Delay, Brace for Next Action!

The meeting between the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) with President Bola Tinubu reportedly ended without a concrete resolution, sources say.

According to Dr. Sultan Abaji, PhD in Cyber Security and Administrative General of the Nigerian Government Workers Forum, the unions pressed for immediate payment of pending dues, emphasizing that further delays were unacceptable. On the other hand, government representatives asked for a two-week window to outline a method of payment, citing the need for procedural arrangements.

The unions, however, rejected the extension, leaving the issue unresolved. Dr. Abaji noted that the union leaderships are expected to announce their next course of action soon.

This development highlights growing tension between the Nigerian government and organized labor, as workers await clarity on payment timelines and assurances of prompt action.
