How President Tinubu Misstepped in Turkey
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu briefly lost his balance during an official welcome ceremony in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, where he is on a state visit with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Video footage from the ceremony shows President Tinubu momentarily missing his step and stumbling while inspecting a guard of honour alongside President Erdoğan.
The president quickly regained his balance, and the event continued without interruption.
The Presidency described the incident as a minor stumble, not a serious fall, and said there is no cause for health concern.
Presidential spokespersons and aides explained that the momentary loss of footing happened after the president stepped on a metal object/uneven surface, including reports mentioning a poorly laid carpet at the venue.
Officials stressed that the president remained fit and in good health, and urged the public not to sensationalize the incident.
President Tinubu proceeded with his official schedule, including bilateral talks with President Erdoğan and meetings focused on strengthening diplomatic, economic, and strategic cooperation between Nigeria and Türkiye.
A joint press conference and further engagements were reportedly planned following the discussion.
