Kwankwaso Dismisses Rift Rumours, Reaffirms Strong Political Alliance with Peter Obi Ahead of 2027

ABUJA, Nigeria — Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed widespread speculation suggesting a breakdown in his relationship with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, insisting that their political alliance remains intact.

Speaking in a recent interview, Kwankwaso firmly rejected claims that he was at odds with Obi or considering distancing himself from their shared political movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former governor described reports of a rift between the two political figures as unfounded, stressing that he and Obi continue to enjoy a cordial relationship built on mutual respect and a common vision for Nigeria’s future.

Kwankwaso noted that both leaders command significant support among young Nigerians and share similar political ideals aimed at addressing the country's challenges. According to him, the growing influence of the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient movements presents a unique opportunity to mobilize citizens around a common agenda for national development.

Addressing discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential race, Kwankwaso reportedly expressed his willingness to serve as Peter Obi’s running mate if such an arrangement would strengthen their chances of electoral success. He also stated that Obi had assured him that any future administration would be based on inclusiveness and shared responsibility.

The former presidential candidate further commented on the ongoing debate over power rotation, saying he believes Obi would honour his public commitment regarding a single term in office should he emerge victorious in a future election.

Kwankwaso also used the opportunity to dismiss suggestions of disunity within their political camp, maintaining that key stakeholders remain focused on building a formidable platform capable of offering Nigerians an alternative leadership option.

Political observers say the remarks are likely to fuel further discussions about potential opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, especially amid growing calls for greater collaboration among major opposition figures.

With his latest comments, Kwankwaso has sought to put to rest rumours of discord, reaffirming that his relationship with Peter Obi remains strong and that both leaders continue to pursue a shared political vision for Nigeria.
