Kaduna Begins Training of 1,000 Forest Guards to Boost Security Operations

In a significant move to strengthen security across Kaduna State, the state government has commenced the training of 1,000 newly recruited forest guards to support ongoing efforts against banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.

The six-week intensive training programme is taking place at the Police College in Kaduna, where the recruits are receiving specialized instruction on forest security operations, surveillance, intelligence gathering, and crime prevention in rural communities that have been heavily affected by insecurity.

The initiative is being implemented under the supervision of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), which is responsible for coordinating the operational framework and deployment strategy for the newly trained personnel upon completion of the programme.

According to reports, the forest guards will be deployed to some of the state's most security-challenged areas, particularly across eight local government areas, including Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Kachia, Kagarko, Kajuru, Chikun, and Igabi.

The recruits are expected to work closely with conventional security agencies to improve monitoring of forest corridors, enhance intelligence gathering, and curb the activities of bandits and kidnappers who often use remote forests as operational bases.

The latest security initiative underscores the Kaduna State Government’s commitment to restoring peace, protecting communities, and strengthening security architecture across the state amid ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activities and improve public safety.
